Thursday was the final day of the conference, and started off with a fun debate between two energy efficiency heavyweights -Tom Eckman and Ralph Cavanagh. The topic was on whether or not energy efficiency can be considered a resource like coal or wind. It was captured on video as were several other of the sessions and will be posted on https://conduitnw.org/ as soon as they become available.
Their next session on cutting edge technology covered a wide array of topics, from research by Ecova, Inc. on energy efficient dryers to LED street lighting and new advances in rooftop unit efficiency design. LED street lighting offers municipalities a game-changing opportunity to not only reduce their electric load but reduce labor costs because the LED street lamps last for many years beyond currently available lamps.
The last session covered financing options for energy efficient retrofits. A representative from Metrus Energy, an energy efficiency construction and financing firm spoke about their efficiency services agreement program (a variant on performance contracting). Sonoma County spoke about their PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) program that provides low-cost loans for energy efficient measures through property taxes.
